The Gladiator sequel adds another big name to its cast list. Stranger Things star Joseph Quinn, who played the wildly popular Eddie Munson on the Duffer brothers' series, will join Paul Mescal in the Ridley Scott-directed film that will begin filming soon.
According to reports from Deadline, Joseph Quinn will join Paul Mescal, Denzel Washington and Barry Keoghan in Gladiator 2 as Emperor Caracalla. It was also revealed that Connie Nielsen will also return as Lucilla in this sequel.
Quinn appeared in season 4 of the hit Netflix series Stranger Things, and immediately won over audiences with his witty and sarcastic character as Munson, the head of D&D club Hellfire. Eddie is one of the main characters in this season who is accused of killing Chrissy, played by Grace Van Dien.
He then teams up with Dustin, Mike, Steve, Robin, Lucas and Erica to find out who is really behind the murders and all the strange things going on in Hawkins. Despite his character's death in the finale, Eddie has become a fan favorite, and Eddie's popularity has helped Quinn land some very important roles. He will star in A Quiet Place: Day One, a prequel to the original story of John Krasinski's franchise.
Filming is expected to begin later this year, with Scott returning to direct the upcoming film and David Scarpa as writer. In addition to directing the film's sequel, Scott will also serve as producer through his Scott Free label with Michael Pruss.
Gladiator 2 will be set decades after the first film and will reportedly follow Lucius Verus, son of Lucilla as he searches for the truth about his biological father, discovering that he is, in fact, the biological son of Maximus Decimus Meridius, played by Russell Crowe.
The film Gladiator first hit theaters in 2000 and received critical acclaim and box office success, which led to several Academy Award wins, such as Best Picture. The film's success ultimately thrust Russell Crowe's career into the spotlight, and spawned a short-lived revival of the epic film genre during the 2000s.
